Dental implants

An implant is an artificial tooth root that anchors a replacement tooth. It is surgically placed in the jawbone and does not depend on the neighbouring teeth.

A dental implant is a small screw-shaped post, placed in the jaw, that acts as the root for a replacement tooth. Because it stands on its own, it addresses tooth loss from accident, injury or disease without grinding down the healthy teeth on either side. Implants have roughly a 95 percent success rate.

Why an implant

A missing tooth does not stay an isolated problem. The remaining teeth shift, and the bone where the tooth used to be begins to deteriorate. An implant fills the gap and helps preserve the bone, letting people stay active without working around a lost tooth.

How it works with your body

Implants are made from metallic and bone-like ceramic materials that the body accepts. Over a healing period the post fuses with living bone, a process called osseointegration. That fusion is what gives an implant the stability to function like a natural tooth.

The timeline

After the post is placed, healing typically runs three to six months before the permanent crown is attached. The team confirms the plan and imaging at a consultation rather than guessing at candidacy up front.

Are you a candidate

Good candidates tend to have good overall health, good dental health and enough bone to support the post. For patients who cannot wear dentures, implant-supported dentures using titanium posts are also an option. Once healed, an implant is cared for like a natural tooth.

Common questions

How long does the whole process take?

After the implant is placed, healing usually takes three to six months before the permanent crown goes on. Your timeline is confirmed at the consultation.

Do implants ruin the teeth next to them?

No. Unlike a bridge, an implant stands on its own and does not rely on or alter the neighbouring teeth.

What does an implant cost?

Cost is set after an exam, since it depends on your case. The clinic does not publish implant pricing.
